TEN WAYS TO SUPPORT PAWS

  1. Donate to PAWS by honoring a family member, friend, or loved one. We will acknowledge the designated person or animal companion with a personal card or special treat when you include their contact information with the gift.

  2. Become a Constant Companion of PAWS. Constant Companions are the very special supporters who provide a regular and dependable gift to PAWS clients. Like the volunteers who regularly walk dogs, deliver pet food to homebound clients, and foster animals during hospital stays, when you pledge a monthly donation to PAWS, we know we can count on you. It's as though you are providing health insurance—your monthly gift allows us to provide consistent care that not only improves the health of our clients, but of their animal companions as well.

  3. Donate to PAWS through your company's employee giving program or through the United Way (PAWS is agency #925895). Invite PAWS to present to your company employees; PAWS Certified Community Campaign Agency number is 14440.

  4. Shop at PAWS and show your pride by sporting our popular PAWSwear.

  5. Donate through a business that supports PAWS. See the Businesses that Support PAWS in the Sponsors section.

  6. Donate pet food and supplies to PAWS Food Bank.

  7. Designate PAWS as one of your beneficiaries or contingent beneficiaries in your retirement plan, IRA, or last will or trust.

  8. Consider a gift of appreciated securities. Have stocks or mutual funds with substantial gains that you've held for over a year? You can deduct the full value of the stock or fund as a charitable contribution. Please consult your financial advisor for specifics regarding this option.

  9. Create a donor advised fund for as little as $10,000. The money is invested and you indicate each year how much and to which charities you would like to contribute (minimum checks of $250). It's a great way to get children involved in charitable giving by having them select the charities. You receive the full deduction in the year of contribution because the gift is irrevocable.

  10. Donate your car. Contact Development Coordinator Cheryl Shiflett at (415) 979-9550 Ext 309 or via e-mail for more information.

    IN-KIND DONATIONS

    What is an "in-kind" donation?
For PAWS an in-kind donation is anything and everything that you give that we can recycle to better serve our clients. Pet food, pro-bono professional services such as graphic design, veterinary and grooming services and any other type of service that might be utilized by a nonprofit business are all considered in-kind donations. This type of donation saves PAWS about $300,000 per year. Without this support we would not be able to provide the services that help our clients maintain their relationships with their companion animals.

Can I donate food, medications, and pet accessories to PAWS that have been opened or used?
Yes, PAWS relies on donated pet items to fulfill requests and reduce costs for our clients to care for their companion animals. A majority of the food distributed to PAWS companion animals has been donated. There are also many animals who are in need of special dietary requirements for whom you may purchase food and then donate it to PAWS on their behalf. See our Wish List section for details.

Where do I drop off my donation?
Items may be dropped of at our office (645 Harrison St Suite 100 between 2nd and 3rd streets) any weekday from 10am to 6pm or by special arrangement. On Saturdays, donated items may be dropped off at our Pet Food Bank from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The Pet Food Bank is located at the PAWS office. Please note that the Pet Food Bank is closed on holiday weekends.

Can I write off in-kind donations when I file my taxes?
Yes, if it is a tangible good that you are donating and not a service. When you contribute an item to PAWS please include your name and address so that we may send you a tax receipt letter. PAWS is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are deductible to the full extent of the law. It is your responsibility to put a value on the items that you have donated. Please speak to your tax preparer if you have specific questions about tax deductible donations.
